Storm succumb to Fighting Bees in non-conference action

MOLINE, Ill. - The Simpson College women's tennis played St. Ambrose close throughout, but succumbed to a non-conference defeat on Friday afternoon.

The Fighting Bees (3-9) came up clutch to win two tie breaks in singles, with the 7-2 final score a lot closer than reflected.

St. Ambrose took a 2-0 lead in doubles, but the duo of Bella Tranquilino and Grace Peck gave the Storm (2-10, 2-6 A-R-C) their first point of the day with an 8-6 win at the No. 1 doubles spot.

The Fighting Bees went up 4-1 with straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Coilee Hynek won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot to cut into the lead.

Tranquilino and Peck each won a set at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, but the Fighting Bees won both tiebreaks to claim the match.
