Storm split pair of conference matches at home
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson women's tennis team dropped a decision against Loras, before rebounding to defeat Dubuque in American Rivers Conference play at Buxton Tennis Complex, Saturday.
After a tough match against Loras (6-4, 2-3 A-R-C) in which the Storm (2-5, 2-4 A-R-C) were shut out, the team rebounded just a few hours later.
The Storm then earned a crucial win over Dubuque to remain in the middle of the pack in the conference. The Spartans (0-10, 0-5 A-R-C) won at the top spots in doubles and singles, but the Storm were tough all the way down the lineup to claim the match, 6-3.
Donni Kinghorn and Carina Covington won a crucial match at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-6. The match was especially important as doubles were tied 1-1 after the Storm lost at No. 1 doubles, but won at No. 3 doubles via walkover.
Despite the Spartans winning the top two singles matches, the Storm took all matches at No. 3-6 singles. Kennedi Wright blanked her opponent at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-0. Covington won her second match of the day with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Tatiana Ptsazek at the No. 4 position.
Anna Schewe claimed her first singles win of the year with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win, before Maggie Hall claimed a win at No. 6 singles via a walkover.
