Simpson clips Nebraska Wesleyan in 5-4 battle

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's tennis team survived on its home courts to claim a 5-4 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Storm (2-1, 2-1 A-R-C) took two of the three doubles matches to grab a quick 2-1 tilt in the American Rivers Conference clash. The duo of Anna Wanek and Emily King cruised to an 8-1 victory. Bella Tranquilino and Kennedi Wright won 8-7 after taking the tiebreaker, 7-4.

With the match placed at 4-4, Megan Grubb played the hero by winning her No. 3 singles bout to put Simpson over the edge for the win. Grubb won 6-4, 6-4 to move to 3-0 this fall.

King and Kinghorn were victorious in their singles matches to help the squad.

Wright dropped a hard-fought battle in the No. 5 spot. The first set ended in a tiebreaker, but went in favor of her Prairie Wolf (0-2, 0-1 A-R-C) counterpart before she fell in the second set.

Wanek dropped her match at No. 1 singles to halt her streak of 21 straight victories. She currently holds the program record for winning percentage in a season (100%), winning percentage in career (95.5%) and most wins in a season (19).
