Storm fall to Coe in season opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's tennis squad opened its season on Saturday at Coe, but came up short in a 6-3 match.

The tandem of Anna Wanek and Emily King won the No. 1 doubles slot in an 8-7 bout before the Kohawks (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C) took the other two matches.

In singles play, Wanek kept her perfect record intact with a win in the No. 1 spot. She won with set scores of 7-6 and 6-4 to move to 20-0 for her career mark with the Storm (0-1, 0-1 A-R-C).

Megan Grubb collected the second victory for Simpson in singles play. She won 7-5 an 7-5 in her No. 3 position.

Up Next
The Storm begin a two-match homestand next weekend starting with a contest against Buena Vista on Friday at 4 p.m. The weekend closes with a match against Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday at noon.
