Strong doubles play leads Storm to season-opening sweep

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson women's tennis team went a perfect 6-0 in doubles play and got perfect performances from Megan Bradley and Sierra Griffith en-route to a pair of 6-3 wins over Monmouth (Ill.) and Knox on Saturday. 

Bradley and Griffith went a combined 8-0 on the day for the Storm (2-0). Bradley picked up wins at 1- and 2-singles and paired with Carter Stacey to go 2-0 at 2-doubles. Griffith earned a pair of wins at 6-singles and teammed up with Kelly Kuebler to go 2-0 at 3-doubles.

MONMOUTH
Simpson had little trouble in doubles but dropped 1- and 2-singles before Bradley won in straight sets at No. 3. Stacey and Griffith earned wins at 5 and 6, respectively, with Griffith getting a crucial win in the third set against Natalie Curtis.

KNOX
Bradley moved up to 2 singles against the Prairie Fire, getting similar results with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Bhumika Gupta. Kayla Reusche took a 6-1, 6-2 decision at 1 singles and Griffith coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sierra Henry at No. 6.

UP NEXT
The Storm travel to Dubuque next weekend to open conference play against Dubuque and Loras. The Dubuque match is set to get underway at 9 a.m. next Saturday, Sept. 9, with the Loras match to follow at 1 p.m.
