Storm close fall season at IIAC Individual Championship

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Megan Bradley and Sidney Griffith reached the quarterfinals in singles play and the team of Michelle Hartmann and Cassidy Bierbrodt did in doubles at the Iowa Conference Individual Championships on Friday.

None would advance from Simpson for the semifinal and championship rounds that were played on Saturday though, as the women's tennis team saw its season come to a close Friday at the Clark Racquet Center and the Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex in Cedar Rapids.

Bradley competed in Flight B and won 8-4 in a one set first round match against Wartburg's Carly Sis. She then outlasted Luther's Anna Pearson, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) in round two. Loras' No. 1 seeded Jessica Dickhut was too much in the quarterfinals though, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Bradley.

In Flight C singles, Griffith took a bye in the first round before ousting Allison Stahmer of Wartburg, 8-5. Griffith kept rolling with an 8-3 win over Holly Vander Pol of Central in round three but Marissa Joers of Dubuque won 8-0 to cut Griffith's run short.

Kelli Ehrhardt and Michelle Hartmann represented Simpson in Flight A singles but both took losses in straight sets in the first round.

Doubles play featured only flights A and B, with Hartmann and Bierbrodt reaching the quarterfinals of Flight A competition. The duo won a tight 9-7 match over Anna Bowser and Karianna Grindberg of Central, earning Hartmann and Bierbrodt a spot in the quarterfinals with no second round in Flight A.

Luther's Jackie Cychosz and Britta Pressler of Luther won 8-1 over Simpson's best doubles finishers in the quarterfinals though.

Bradley and Liz Nimmo won their first round match in Flight B Doubles but lost 8-2 to Paige Vannausdle and Ashley Maley of Central in the second round.

All semifinal, championship and third place matches in singles and doubles play took place on Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
