Jennifer Gruenisen hired as women's tennis coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa – A former Division III All-American, Jennifer Gruenisen has been hired as the next head women's tennis coach at Simpson College, as announced by Director of Athletics Brian Niemuth.

A standout at Gustavus Adolphus College, Gruenisen earned All-America accolades in both singles and doubles as a senior. She was also named the 2008 Midwest Region Senior Player of the Year and has served as a teaching professional at several country and fitness clubs.

Gruenisen takes over for Lindsay Chase, who led the Storm program from 2008-2015.

"Jennifer's experience as a Division III student-athlete and her love for the game make her a perfect fit for Simpson," Niemuth said. "She will relate to our players well and continue the program's growth experienced in recent years."

Gruenisen enjoyed individual and team success during her collegiate career. The Gusties qualified for the NCAA Team Tournament in each of her four years and she took part in the NCAA Individual Tournament as a senior in 2008. She earned all-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors seven times throughout her career: three times in singles and four in doubles.

"I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to join the Simpson Storm coaching staff, and represent Simpson College, an institution with rich academic and athletic tradition," Gruenisen said. "The Storm women's tennis program has big potential, and has made great strides in recent seasons. I am looking forward to helping the program grow even more."

Gruenisen earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Gustavus in 2008 before graduating from Drake University Law School in 2012. She currently owns Jennifer Gruenisen Mediation and Law Office, LLC in Ankeny.

Simpson went 50-93 under Chase, posting 10-win seasons in 2011 and 2012. Four individuals and one doubles team earned Iowa Conference titles under Chase and the team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team honors three times.

The fall season begins Saturday, Sept. 5 at home against Knox and Monmouth (Ill.).
