Storm come back to take down Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Trailing after doubles, the Simpson women's tennis team rallied in singles for a  5-4 win over Central on Tuesday evening.

The Storm (4-3, 4-1 Iowa Conference) won four singles matches after dropping 2 of 3 in doubles for their third-straight win over the Dutch (3-1, 2-1).

"Despite coming out of doubles behind by a point, the girls stayed mentally tough and competed strong in singles," head coach Lindsay Chase said. "When the match got close, we stayed strong until the end."

Allison Anderson improved to 5-1 on the year with a closely contested 6-4, 6-4 win over Megan Davis at No. 2 singles.

Lindsay Nash continued the momentum with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anna Striegel. Freshman Kelli Ehrhardt added a 6-3, 6-2 win over Amanda Kuhn at No. 4 singles and Michelle Hartman won her fourth singles match in a row via a 7-5, 6-2, win over Katie Todd at the sixth spot.

Nash and Ehrhardt picked up the only doubles win for Simpson, beating Todd and Anna Bowser at No. 2, 9-7.

"I'm so proud of how the girls played today," Chase said. "That was a huge win for us over a tough conference rival."

Following three straight conference matches, the Storm get a break from league play this weekend when they travel to Davenport, Iowa for matches against St. Ambrose and UW-Stout on Saturday. The Ambrose match begins at 10 a.m. with the Stout match to follow at 1 p.m.
