Storm close season with strong showing at Liberal Arts

DECORAH, Iowa — Brenna Yeutsy's sixth-place effort in the 100-yard freestyle led five, top-10 finishes for the Simpson women's swimming and diving team on the final day of the Liberal Arts Championships on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Simpson finished in ninth-place with 185.5 points, 13 points ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan. The Storm reset two individual and one relay record during the week. Yeutsy set a new record in the 500 freestyle and helped the 800 freestyle relay team of Sarah Prendergast, Cassie Bergman and Cheyenne Wiederholt set a new mark as well. Kayla Cary broke the 100 butterfly record.

Highlights
• Yeutsy swam 56.15 to place sixth in the 100 freestyle, matching her finish from a year ago. She was followed by Prendergrast, who took seventh in a season-best time of 56.28, the fifth-best time in school history.
• Cary finished off her final Liberal Arts Championship with an eighth-place showing in the 200 butterly. She touched the wall in a season-best time of 2:21.19 and closes her career as the school record holder in the event, setting the mark with a 2:18.07 last season.
Naomi Olsgaard took ninth-place in the one-meter diving, racking up 254.30 points. 
• The 400 freestyle team finished a narrow race in ninth-place touching the wall in a time of 3:53.75, only .10 seconds ahead of Mills.
• A number of swimmers set new bests on Saturday, including: Katie Cardoza in the 100 free, Madison DePover in the 1650 freestyle, Kristina Smith in the 200 butterfly and Mikala Williams-Yee and Camryn Leeser in the 200 breaststroke.
