Storm sit in sixth after day one at Grinnell Invitational

GRINNELL, Iowa — Cassie Bergman and the 800 freestyle relay team led the Simpson women's swimming and diving team to sixth place at the Grinnell Invitational on Friday, Jan. 19.

The Storm collected 206 points after the first day of the invitational landing them in sixth place out of 10 teams.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Sarah Prendergast, Cheyenne Wiederholt, Bergman and Brenna Yeutsy had the top performance for the Storm on day one. The team finished sixth with a time of 9:02.46. Simpson's second 800 relay team - Carter Stacey, Kristina Smith, Katie Cardoza and Madison DePover - came in ninth place with a time of 9:52.06.

Bergman came out on top with the best individual performance of the day. Bergman's time of 1:09.64 in the 100 IM placed her in eighth.

Simpson's other top performers of the day came from Yeutsy and Kayla Cary. Yeutsy competed in the 500 freestyle placing ninth in a time of 5:47.68. Cary finished in ninth place in the 200 butterfly touching the wall at 2:35.91.

The Storm continue the Grinnell Invitational on Jan. 20.
