Women's swimming tops Loras, improves to 5-2

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Simpson women's swimming team brought in six first-place finishes and easily won 132-83 over Loras on Friday night.

"I think we raced very well tonight," head coach Tom Caccia said. "Our competitiveness was very sharp."

Brenna Yeutsy, the Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week, finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:03.64) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:44.67). Cassie Bergman took on the shorter distances, finishing second in the 50 freestyle (27.60) and first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.57).

Maren Hoferitza-Palermo finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:28.67, just ahead of teammate Cheyenne Wiederholt. Wiederholt earned two second-place finishes tonight, in the 200 IM (2:29.50) and in the 200 backstroke (2:26.67). Her backstroke sits at fourth-best in the school record books.

The four combined for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Wiederholt, Bergman, Hoferitza-Palermo, and Yeutsy finished in 4:01.84.

A freshman, Angela Eppens earned her first first-place finish as a Storm swimmer. Eppens won the 1000 freestyle in 13:08.78.

Haley Blum showed off her senior leadership tonight with a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:45.93.

The Storm travel to Beloit, Wis. to face both Beloit and Ripon tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
