Swimming and diving teams fall at Coe in season opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Simpson men's and women's swimming and diving teams were led by a combined seven wins in a competitive dual at Coe on Friday.

Coe won the women's competition 138-79 and the men's 105-101.

Starting off the night early in an outstanding fashion in the men's 200-yard medley relay was the quartet of Michael Rueter, Kyle McKimDylan Gray, and Scott Wailes. They sailed through a 10 second victory with a time of 1:49.92. Nathan Schneider chimed in with his win in the men's 1000-yard freestyle and a win in the men's 500-yard freestyle with times of 12:03.05 and 5:40.15, respectively. Kyle McKim took first in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.00.

On the women's side, Haley Blum bested the competition in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.75. The quartet of Christina Amburgy, Alex Vander Veen, Erica Carlson, and Tori Haag cruised through the women's 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:51.26.

Other Men's Highlights

  • JJ Hanson took first in men's 1-meter diving competition totaling 166.8.

Other Women's Highlights

  • Tori Haag was 0.77 seconds shy of taking first in the 100-yard freestyle. She placed second.
