Women’s soccer stretches unbeaten streak to seven games

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Simpson College women's soccer team used two goals in each half to defeat Buena Vista 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in Storm Lake.

With the win, the Storm (10-1-1, 3-0-0 A-R-C) picked up their 10th victory of the season and stretched their current unbeaten streak to seven games.

GOAL SUMMARY

  • Cassie Nash scored her third gamewinner of the season just over six minutes into the game on an assist from Averi Baas. The Beavers (3-8-0, 0-4-0 A-R-C) had a free kick just outside their attacking third that was cleared in front of Baas who sent the ball forward for Nash to finish.
  • Nash's second goal was much like the first, with Ally Hoffa providing the long pass through Buena Vista defenders.
  • Simpson's second half goals came within a few minutes of each other. Brissa Valadez scored the first off an assist from Nash and Alexis Ponce followed with her first goal of the year, scoring off a deflected save by the Buena Vista goalkeeper on a shot attempt by Hoffa.

NOTES

  • Simpson improves to 25-1-1 all-time against Buena Vista, extending its win streak to nine games. In the 27 games played between the two teams, the Storm have outscored the Beavers 149-6.
  • Simpson's four goals were a season-high, while its 25 shots were the second-most this season. Defensively, the Storm held Buena Vista without a shot for their seventh shutout of 2023.
  • Cassie Nash now has 11 goals and eight assists through 12 games. She has logged four games with multiple goals as well as three games with more than one assist.
  • The Storm are now 6-1-1 on the road and 3-0-0 in conference play. Simpson is also 9-0-0 when scoring first as well as 9-0-0 when converting multiple goals.
  • With Alexis Ponce finding the back of the net, Simpson has now had nine different players score a goal this year. The Storm have outscored their foes 26-6.
  • Simpson begins conference play with a 3-0-0 record for the first time since 2006. 

UP NEXT
American Rivers Conference play continues on Tuesday evening when Nebraska Wesleyan makes its way to Buxton Stadium for a 5 p.m. contest. The Storm will then head to Loras on Saturday, Oct. 14.
