Late goals skew final result in loss to Culver-Stockton

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Kaitlyn Bravek's header early in the second half made it a one-score game, but a pair of late goals allowed Culver-Stockton to beat the Simpson women's soccer team 4-1 on a chilly Wednesday evening at Buxton Stadium.

The Storm are now 4-10 on the season with two crucial conference games remaining. The Wildcats are now 7-6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Culver-Stockton got on the board in the 24th minute when Francesca Frasca converted a penalty kick. She was award the try after a Simpson foul in the box, and the score remained 1-0 until halftime.

Montse Caparros gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead when she found the back of the net from 6 yards out in the 49th minute. Emma McKinstry got the scoring started on a cross into the box.

The Storm made it interesting when Bravek headed in a perfect serve from Madisen Strecker in the 59th minute. Strecker took a free kick from 40 yards out, finding Bravek on the far post to pull Simpson within 2-1.

Simpson's back line kept Culver-Stockton out of the net until the 83rd minute, when Frasca collected her second goal of the game. The Wildcats tacked on a fourth goal in the 88th minute with the Storm pushing numbers forward.

GAME NOTES

• Goalkeeper Zoe Seiler made 10 saves between the posts in her first start of the season. Hampered by injuries throughout the season, Seiler recorded the sixth, 10-save game of her career.
• Madisen Strecker recorded her first career assist on Simpson's goal in the 59th minute.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT TALK

With two games to play in the regular season, the Storm are tied with Coe for the sixth and final spot in the American Rivers Conference Tournament. A result against league-leading Wartburg would go a long way toward clinching a bid, and the regular season finale against Coe on Tuesday could essentially be a one-game playoff for the sixth spot.
