Four-minute span hurts Storm in 2-0 loss to Grinnell

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Grinnell scored two goals in a four-minute span to beat the Simpson women's soccer team 2-0 on Thursday at Buxton Stadium.

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 45 minutes before the Pioneers (2-2-1) struck a little over 10 minutes in to the second frame.

Jordan Maddaus found the back of the net from 15 yards out in the 56th minute to get the scoring started. Maddaus got things started on the next goal, sending a cross that Valencia Alvarez finished from 10 yards out in the 60th minute.

"We are growing as a group and, statistically, we are closing the gap on some tough opponents," head coach Jeremy Reinert said. "We need to be more polished and creative in the attacking third to relieve some pressure from our defensive unit."

The Storm (1-4) put three shots on frame and got three saves from keeper Aspen Brockhouse. Victoria Jordan had Simpson's best opportunity, firing a shot from 25-yards out near the end of the first half that Grinnell's Elizabeth Hunt was able to secure.

"Goals are coming for our attacking players," Reinert said. "Their work rate is tremendous and they are committed to finding solutions."
