Serafino steps down as women’s soccer coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Jill Serafino has resigned as head coach of the Simpson women's soccer team, Director of Athletics Brian Niemuth announced.

"I appreciate Jill's service to the women's soccer program and to Simpson College," Niemuth said. "Her contributions to Simpson extend well beyond soccer and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors."

Hired as the program's fifth head coach on Jan. 29, 2015, Serafino guided the Storm to a 12-38-3 mark in three seasons on the sidelines. She led the Storm to a five-win campaign in 2015, the most for the program since 2012. She came to Simpson from Springfield College (Mass.), where she served as an assistant coach for three seasons.

"I would like to thank Brian Niemuth and all of the coaches in the department for giving me the opportunity to be a part of Simpson College athletics," Serafino said. "I also want to thank everyone who has supported Storm Soccer over the years. I especially want to thank my staff and the players for their commitment and effort. This is a tremendous group of women and I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to coach them."

A national search for Serafino's replacement will begin immediately.
