DUBUQUE, Iowa — Payton Atwood found the back of the net in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Simpson women's soccer team fell to No. 18 Loras 5-1 on Sunday.
The game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday but game officials pushed the contest back to Sunday due to the threat of severe weather in Eastern Iowa.
Atwood took a free kick from Aimee Shrock in the 55th minute, putting it over the keeper to help the Storm (4-11, 1-5 Iowa Conference) pull within 3-1. The comeback stopped there, though, as Loras added two more goals before time expired.
Brynn Jacobi put the Duhawks (11-1-1, 5-0) on the board with a goal in the 28th minute and Molly Stanfa scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 43rd minute. Loras added three goals in the second half.
