Storm fall to Cornell

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Sofia Schnur netted a hat-trick inside a four-minute span in the first half and Cornell stunned the Simpson women's soccer team 5-0 on Thursday night at Buxton Stadium.

The previously winless Rams (1-7) came out of the gates strong against Simpson and enjoyed their biggest offensive outburst of the season. In seven previous games, Cornell had scored just four goals combined.

The Storm (2-5) never got in sync, getting outshot 16-10 on the night. Maddie Glascock put three shots on goal, all from distance. Her best chance came on a free kick in the 63rd minute, but backup goalkeeper Raphaela Cogan made a leaping save to preserve Cornell's shutout.

Schnur began her assault at the 35:48 mark, going far post from 10 yards out to give Cornell a 3-0 lead. She was in the net again less than a minute later when she dribbled through the Storm defense to go far post again at 36:27. She completed the trifecta at the 39:11 mark, connecting from 10 yards out to make it 5-0.

Lindsay Smith put Cornell on the board in the 10th minute when what looked to be a cross snuck inside the far post. A Simpson foul in the box resulted in the next goal, a penalty kick converted by Ashley Quesada in the 32nd minute.
