Storm send seniors out in style, blank Buena Vista 3-0

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Mackenzie Stump had two assists off corner kicks and three different players scored goals for the Simpson women's soccer team in a 3-0 win over Buena Vista Tuesday in the season finale Tuesday.

Casey Reisen, Maddie Simmons and Taylor Vaudt scored goals for the Storm (3-11-3, 2-6 Iowa Conference). Simmons and Vaudt were the beneficiaries of corner kicks from Stump in the second half.

At the conclusion of a trying season, Simpson sent it seniors out in style by winning two of its last three games.

"The seniors displayed the type of leadership that any team would want," head coach Jill Serafino said. "The team rallied behind them and everyone wanted to go out on a high note. They left everything on the field."

Rachel Novotny made 10 saves in goal for the Beavers (3-13-1, 0-8).

A two-time First Team All-Iowa Conference performer, Stump helped the Storm pull away in the second half, setting up headers for both Simmons and Vaudt. Reisen started the scoring in the 18th minute when she rebounded a Simmons shot that ricocheted off Novotny.
