Simpson generates opportunities in loss to St. Mary

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson women's soccer team generated plenty of scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize in a 2-0 loss to St. Mary on Saturday afternoon.

The Storm (2-4) put eight shots on goal, five off the foot of Casey Reisen, but goalkeeper Courtney Smith was stingy as Simpson was shut out for the second straight game.

In just the third minute of play, St. Mary took a 1-0 lead when Jenna Herse scored on the one-timer in the box off the assist from Liza Martinez.

Simpson buckled down defensively for much of the rest of the game until MaryBethe Smith added an insurance goal off a header in the box in the 86th minute.

Goalkeeper Zoe Seiler played all 90 minutes in goal for Simpson, making four saves as she fell to 1-2 on the year.
