Simpson earns draw in IIAC opener

PELLA, Iowa – Heather Adolph scored the game-tying goal in the 90th minute and the Simpson women's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw with Central in Saturday's Iowa Conference opener.

Adolph scored her first goal of the season when she picked up the second rebound off a missed penalty kick with 36 seconds left in regulation. After a foul in the box, Mackenzie Stump came on for the penalty kick. Her attempt missed, then Madison Densmore fired a shot off the rebound that was saved before Adolph made good on Densmore's deflection.

Densmore scored the first goal of the game for the Storm (2-8-1, 0-0-1 Iowa Conference), who snapped a three-game losing streak with the result.

The Iowa Conference's leading goal scorer, Alayna Bailey scored the first goal of the game to give the Dutch (7-2-1, 0-0-1) a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute. After Densmore got the equalizer for Simpson in the 69th minute, Brittany Hinton converted on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute for a 2-1 lead.

Stephanie Cox made six saves for Simpson and Sydney Lunardi had seven for Central.

Simpson travels to take on 12th-ranked Loras on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
