Storm sink undefeated Vikings in Pella

PELLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's wrestling team opened the month of December with a 25-12 victory over Augustana.

Dylan McChesney (125) and Riley Kovaleski (157) earned pins for the Storm (2-2), which handed the Vikings (2-1) their first dual loss since Dec. 18 of last season. Zach Stewart (149) recorded a major decision and three others won by decision.

McChesney gave Simpson a 6-0 lead 90 seconds into the dual as he pinned Jack Reina in 1:30. Augustana claimed back-to-back decisions to tie the dual but never took the lead as Stewart put Simpson back in front for good with his 8-0 major decision.

Kovaleski earned a first-period pin in 2:16 to stretch the lead to 10, and Robert Silva and Shyler Langley followed with 4-3 and 10-8 decisions, respectively, to place the score at 22-6. After Augustana grabbed six team points with decisions at 184 and 197 pounds, Colton Kinnison outlasted Josh Woodrey in a match that lasted 10 minutes, breaking a 2-2 tie at the end of overtime with a riding time point.
