Simpson defeats Vikings in close road battle

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Simpson College wrestling team picked up its second dual win of the season on Thursday night as the Storm defeated Augustana 20-19 with three decisions, a technical fall and a pin.

The Storm (2-2) went into the third match of the night trailing 10-0 after the Vikings (0-4) collected a forfeit and a major decision to start the dual. Zach Stewart (141) gave Simpson its first points of the night with a 8-3 decision over Kameron Hanel, but Augustana reclaimed a 10-point advantage with a decision in the ensuing match.

Simpson then rattled off three-straight wins to lead 17-13 through seven weight classes. Robert Silva (157) outscored his opponent 18-2 for a technical fall, Jakob Slavin (165) recorded a late pin over Chase Clark, and Shyler Langley (174) won by decision during the stretch. Two of the final three matches went in favor of Augustana but with the help of a 7-1 victory by Andrew Wolff (197), Simpson managed to hold on for the tight win.

The Storm will compete at the Buena Vista Open on Dec. 11 in Storm Lake.
