Storm wrestling tabbed seventh in A-R-C preseason poll

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The American Rivers Conference released the 2021-22 Wrestling Coaches' Preseason Poll last Friday and the Simpson College wrestling team is tied for seventh with Buena Vista with 16 points.

Wartburg has been picked by the league coaches at the top of the poll after earning the A-R-C Championship last season. The Knights tallied eight first-place votes for 64 points. Coe received the other vote to come in second with 55 points, and Loras rounds out the top-three with 52 points.

Head Coach Dylan Peters is back for his third season and will lead a group that returns their top two wrestlers from a year ago including Dylan McChesney who earned the program's first All-American honor since 2006 last spring. The Northglen, Colorado native went 13-4 as a junior and finished the season with a fifth-place finish at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Championships. Senior Shyler Langley also returns for the Storm after posting an 8-6 record last season.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to compete," said Peters. "Opportunities to wrestle last season were minimal. I know I have a great group of guys looking forward to the competition season getting here. The American Rivers Conference has always been one of the best in college wrestling, and I look forward to seeing where we stack up against the rest of the competition."

The Storm are set to open the 2021-22 season on Nov. 4 with a non-conference dual against Cornell. Simpson will host the Luther Hill Invitational two days later with action beginning at 9 a.m. in Cowles Fieldhouse.
