McChesney finishes fifth at NWCA National Championships

CORALVILLE, Iowa -- A day after earning All-American honors, eighth-ranked Dylan McChesney finished fifth at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Championships to lead the Simpson College wrestling team on Saturday.

This is the best finish for a Storm wrestler since Dustin Brewer was tabbed runner-up in 2006 at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

In the 125-pound bracket, the junior started his day like he did yesterday, with a pin. He competed against a familiar foe, Central's Chase Poston and the match went into the second period before McChesney pinned him at 4:18.

With a spot on the line for a top-four placing, McChesney dropped a major decision to Samuel Braswell of Averett.

It was a rematch in the fifth-place bout for McChesney and Luther's Cristian Chavez, who met earlier in the season on Feb. 13 with Chavez winning 10-5. In today's battle, the Northglenn, Colorado native got his revenge by earning a slim 2-0 decision to clinch fifth place.

McChesney ends his season with a 13-3 record
