Padilla, Brown lead Storm at Coe Invitational

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Jason Padilla and RJ Brown each took home sixth-place honors to lead the Simpson wrestling team at the Coe Invitational on Saturday.

Padilla went 2-2 in the 133-pound bracket and Brown went 3-2 at 174.

A freshman, Padilla opened the day with a loss before fighting back to the fifth-place match. He beat Andy Rojas 4-3 then edged teammate Jacob Irwin 10-4 to advance to the fifth-place match. Padilla's run ended there with a loss to Graceland's Nick Short.

Riding the momentum of a pin in Wednesday's dual against Wartburg, Brown opened the day with an 8-6 win over North Central's James Ford. He suffered a 9-4 loss in the quarterfinal round to Coe's Ryan Schott, but responded with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket. He beat teammate Damon Piatt 12-5 before pinning Grand View's Chris Guest in 2:26. Brown met Ford again in the fifth-place match, losing via a second-period pin.

Blake Bauer didn't place at 157 but managed a 2-2 mark on the day, getting a pair of first-period pins.
