Scott named IIAC Wrestler, Male Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Simpson's DeVaughn Scott earned Iowa Conference Wrestler and Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 21, the league office announced Monday.

A junior 197-pounder from Carollton, Texas, Scott went a perfect 4-0 with four pins for the Storm at the Loras Pod of the IIAC Duals on Saturday, Jan. 20. Simpson went 1-3 on the day, beating Nebraska Wesleyan 30-19 and falling to No. 7 Coe (40-11), No. 5 Loras (40-8) and Luther (36-12).

Scott started the day by pinning Coe's Jordan Challis in 3:50, then took down Nebraska Wesleyan's Ben Lodema in 2:22. He pinned his final two opponents in less than a minute, disposing of Luther's Hunter Weaver in 57 seconds and Loras' Richard Hunter in 43 seconds.

Scott improved to 25-9 on the season and has won 11 of his last 13 matches. He has a team-high 17 pins on the year.

Scott is Simpson's first IIAC Wrestler of the Week since the 2013-14 season, when Brett Roberts won the award on Jan. 5.
