Mathis places fourth to lead wrestling at BV

STORM LAKE, Iowa — Sam Mathis took home a fourth-place finish to lead a small group of Simpson wrestlers at the Buena Vista Invitational on Saturday.

Mathis went 2-2 in the 184-pound bracket of the "B" Division at Buena Vista, where the Storm sent only nine wrestlers. RJ Brown added a sixth-place effort in the 174-pound bracket of the "A" Division. 

Mathis earned a pair of major decisions to start the day before losing in the semifinal. He lost a 12-5 decision to Nebraska Wesleyan's Braxton Coleman in the third-place match to finish fourth.

Brown went 1-2 at 174, earning a 3-2 decision over Concordia Nebraska's Darrin Miller in the consolation round. He medically forfeited in the fifth-place match to fall to sixth.
