Gordon takes home all-conference honors

DECORAH, Iowa -- Hannah Gordon fired a career-best 78 in the third round to earn All-Conference honors and lead the Simpson women's golf team at a rain-shortened 2018 American Rivers Conference Championship from Oneota Golf & CC.

Originally scheduled for 72 holes, the final 18 were cancelled due to excessive rainfall in the area. A playoff hole was held to determine both team and individual champions.

The Storm finished fifth in the team standings with rounds of 347-336-344-1027. Central won the team title and Brittany Coppess (Central) earned medalist honors.

Gordon had not only her best day of the tournament, but of her Simpson career as she carded a 78 on Saturday. It marked the fourth best round of the day, allowing her to become Simpson's first all-conference golfer since 2013. Gordon finished just 12 strokes off the pace.

Lydia Martin showed consistency carding an 83 Saturday after her 82 in the second round. She tied for 13th overall.

Madison Hance shot a 91 Saturday to finish tied for 18th while Haley Booton and Kelsa Berkland tied for 26th place.

NOTES

  • Gordon's 78 in the third round is the lowest by a Simpson golfer at the conference championship since Jennifer Gaffney set the record with a 72 in 2012.
  • Gordon's all-conference finish is the first by a Simpson golfer since 2013, when Jennifer Gaffney also placed sixth.
