Women’s golf closes gap at championship midway point

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Simpson women's golf team shaved 13 strokes from round one to close the gap on Wartburg and Luther at the midway point of the American Rivers Conference Championship. Simpson is in fifth place after shooting 334 on Sunday.

Simpson trailed Wartburg by 11 strokes after the first round, but now trail the Wartburg and Luther -- which are tied for third -- by eight strokes. Central leads Dubuque by one stroke for the lead in the team standings.

Hannah Gordon stayed steady for the Storm, carding an 83 to move into seventh place in the individual standings. She is 11 strokes off the pace set by Dubuque's Daniela Miranda as she looks to become the Storm's first top-ten finisher since 2013.

Madison Hance and Lydia Martin turned in the best rounds of the day as each carded a 10-over 82. Hance is in 13th place and Martin is tied for 18th.

Haley Booton cut five strokes from round one, shooting an 87, good for a tie for 26th. Kelsa Berkland carded a 92 and is in 29th place.

The final 36 holes will take place Oct. 6-7 at Oneota Golf & CC in Decorah, Iowa. Rounds three and four will begin at 10:00 am. Luther College is the host of this year's championship.
