Martin's career day leads Storm at first round of Sail Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Lydia Martin enjoyed a career-day in the first round of the Sail Classic to help put the Simpson women's golf team in fourth place of 10 teams.

Simpson shot 329 in the first round and will trail Wartburg by three strokes entering Sunday's final 18 holes. Luther leads the field (312) followed by Central (321).

Martin fired a career-best 78 Saturday, just five strokes back of leader Brooke Klostermann of Wartburg. She finds herself in a four-way tie for fourth after lowering her career-best for the second-straight meet dating back to last spring. She posted an 80 in the final meet of the 2016-17 season.

Madison Hance carded an 82, good for a tie for 13th in the field of 66 golfers.
