Women's golf in fifth after first day of IIAC Championship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Courtney Mabeus carded an 85 and the Simpson women's golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the Iowa Conference Championship from Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.

The Storm shot 353 in the first round, just two strokes behind fourth-place Nebraska Wesleyan. Wartburg leads the pack after shooting 316, followed by Luther at 319.

Mabeus is tied for 13th overall after shooting an 85 Pheasant Ridge's par 72, 5,867-yard layout. Haley Booton and Lydia Martin are tied for 19th.

The second round of the championship -- also contested at Pheasant Ridge -- gets underway Saturday.
