Storm finish sixth at IIAC Championship

PEOSTA, Iowa – Courtney Mabeus carded a final-round 95 at Thunder Hills Country Club as the Simpson women's golf team closed the Iowa Conference Championship in sixth place Saturday.

The Storm entered the day in fifth, but fell 12 strokes behind Coe at the end of the day. Simpson finished 39 strokes ahead of Buena Vista. Wartburg won its ninth straight conference championship, finishing 88 strokes ahead of second place Central.

Wartburg's Rochelle Beardsley won the tournament, finishing eight strokes ahead of teammate Brooke Klostermann with a four-round total of 303.

Mabeus tied for 19th in the field of 40 golfers, jumping ahead of teammate Lydia Martin by shooting 84 on Friday, Simpson's low round for the tournament.

Competing in their first conference championship, freshmen Kelsa Berkland and Martin placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Berkland was nine strokes behind Mabeus while Martin recovered from Friday's round of 105 with a 93 to finish one shot behind Berkland.

Maddie Berkley shot a 102 on day four to place 29th while Coltyn Hunter rounded out Simpson's competitors, placing 30th.
