Storm tied for fifth through first weekend of IIAC Championship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Simpson women's golf team shaved 13 strokes off its score from round one to move into a tie for fifth place after the first two rounds of the Iowa Conference Women's Golf Championship at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.

Through two rounds the Storm have shot a 731 to share fifth place with Coe, 15 strokes behind Loras for fourth place.

Lydia Martin shot a Simpson-best 88 and 87 respectively on the par-72 course, sitting 17th in the field of 39. Kelsa Berkland is tied for 22nd after shooting eight strokes better Saturday. She shot 95 Friday and came back with a Simpson-best round 87 on Saturday.

At the top of the leaderboard is Wartburg's Rochelle Beardsley who is 4-over par for a Knights squad that has shot a 611, matching the 36-hole championship record it set last year. Wartburg holds a 41 stroke lead over second place Central.

Rounds three and four of the IIAC Championships will take place next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10. The final 36 holes will be contested at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta, Iowa.
