Women's golf in sixth after first round at IIAC Championship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Lesley Pearey carded an opening round 87 to lead the Simpson women's golf team at the first round of the Iowa Conference Championship from Pheasant Ridge Golf Course on Friday.

Pearey sits alone in 17th place after the first 18 holes and Simpson is sixth as a team after shooting 364.

Seven-time defending champion Wartburg leads the field after shooting 309 in the first round. Central is second (329), followed by Loras (343), Luther (343), Coe (363) and Simpson. Dubuque (374) and Buena Vista (412) round out the eight-team field.

Wartburg's Rochelle Beardsley is in first place after shooting a 2-over 74. 

Holly Baiotto finished the first round just three shots behind Pearey, good for a tie for 26th. Allison McArtor (93) is 31st, Coltyn Hunter (94) is 32nd and Courtney Mabeus (106) is 35th.

Saturday's second round gets underway at 9 a.m. with players from Wartburg, Central and Luther going off the No. 1 tee in the first wave. They will be followed by Loras, Coe and Simpson at approximately 9:40 a.m. The final wave, comprised of players from Buena Vista and Dubuque, will tee off beginning at 10:20 a.m.
