Simpson in fourth at halfway point, Gaffney tied for third

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Jennifer Gaffney sits in a tie for third and the Simpson women's golf team is in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Iowa Conference Championship from Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.

Gaffney fired an 80 in the second round, equaling her first round score for 160 through 36 holes of the 72-hole tournament. The 2012 Iowa Conference Medalist, Gaffney is eight shots back of leader Rochelle Beardsley of Wartburg.

Tied for second after the first 18 holes, Simpson slipped to fourth place as a team (344-346-690). Defending champions Wartburg lead (314-317-631), followed by Central (344-332-676) and Luther (345-334-679).

Jessica Lerdal shaved two shots from her first round to find herself alone in eighth place at the midway point (85-83-168).

Stacy Bergeson is three shots out of all-conference contention in 12th (83-89-172), Molly Hill is tied for 29th (96-94-190) and Holly Baiotto is tied for 36th (105-96-201).

The final 36 holes of the 72-hole championship will be contested Oct. 4-5 at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids.
