Gaffney comes back to win BVU Invite

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Jennifer Gaffney recovered from a four-stroke deficit to win the Buena Vista Fall Invitational at Lake Creek Country Club on Saturday.

Gaffney trailed Central's Taylor Hill by four strokes entering the day, but carded the day's low round of 7-over 79 to tie Hill at 159. Gaffney won the playoff and was crowned champion.

Simpson finished seven strokes behind Central in the team race. The Dutch won the tournament (112), followed by Simpson (119), Coe (209) and Buena Vista (222).

Despite a triple bogey on the par-4 second early in the day, Gaffney leveled to shoot 4-over on the front nine. She rallied to shoot 1-over on the back nine and force the playoff.

Gaffney finished the weekend with four birdies – two on Friday and two on Saturday. She recorded nine pars total during the final round.

Stacy Bergeson finished in fourth place after shooting 86 on Saturday, resulting in a 36-hole total of 171. Kiley Wermersen shaved two strokes off her first round score with an 85, tying for fifth with 172. Jessica Lerdal finished in seventh (89, 92, 181), Jamie Knock tied for eighth (93, 91, 184), Molly Hill tied for 11th (96, 96, 192) and Allison McArtor placed 17th (99, 106, 205).

Simpson travel's to Pella's Bos Landedn Golf Course next weekend (Sept. 8-9) for the Central Invitational.
