Storm compete season sweep over Spartans
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's basketball team completed a season sweep of Dubuque on Saturday with a 75-68 victory on the road.
With the win, the Storm (10-8, 6-3 A-R-C) registered their first season sweep over the Spartans (7-11, 4-5 A-R-C) since the 2021-22 season and remained tied for second place in American Rivers Conference standings.
KEY MOMENTS
- Simpson got all its scoring in the first quarter from the trio of Haley Rasmussen (8), Molly Lutmer (5) and Elle Street (4), leading 17-14 by the end.
- Taylor Hansen scored seven consecutive points in the final two minutes of the second period to help the Storm separate themselves by eight, 37-29, at halftime.
- Haley Rasmussen's third 3-pointer of the game gave Simpson an 11-point lead midway through the third and the Storm clung to a 54-47 advantage going into the final quarter.
- Four more points for Hansen propelled Simpson to its largest lead of the afternoon, 59-56, with 2:33 remaining. Dubuque cut the lead down to seven on two occasions, but Simpson iced the game from the free throw line to earn its 10th win of the season.
