Falcons top Storm in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Cassie Nash surpassed 20 points for the 19th time in her career, but the Simpson College women's basketball team fell 61-51 to Wis.-River Falls on Sunday.

After the Falcons (4-1) took a 50-43 lead with a 3-point basket by Macy Nilsen, Nash scored five unanswered to cut the deficit to two with 2:03 left. The Storm could not sustain the offense however, and Wis.-River Falls converted 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch for the win.

Simpson (3-3) also overcame a seven-point deficit in the second quarter thanks to a 9-0 run with a trio of free throws along with field goals from Doryn Paup, Macy Gaskill and Dylan Holland. The scoring spree gave the Storm a 23-21 lead, but they would trail 32-27 at intermission.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Simpson outscored Wis.-River Falls 22-16 from the field in the second half, but the Falcons made up for it at the line, converting 13 of 22 free throws.
  • The Storm were 2-for-4 from downtown in the first quarter, but went 0-for-10 the rest of the way for a 14.3 efficiency rate.

NOTES

  • Both teams came into the game aiming for their fourth consecutive win.
  • The Falcons improve to 5-1 in the all-time series with the Storm.
  • Rasmussen now has five games with double-digit scoring, including a pair of 20-point performances.

Simpson hosts a pair of conference games inside Cowles Fieldhouse, beginning with Coe on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Storm will then face Dubuque on Saturday at 2 p.m.
