Swarming defense lifts Storm over Buena Vista

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Jenna Taylor scored 25 points, Cassie Chubb posted a second-straight double-double, and the Simpson women's basketball team ran away from Buena Vista for an 82-56 win on Wednesday night.

Chubb finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench and Cameron Kincaid added 10 points before fouling out as the Storm (5-1, 2-1 American Rivers) closed the 2018 portion of the conference schedule in style.

Though Simpson didn't shoot particularly well as a team -- 39 percent -- Taylor helped raise that figure by going 11-for-15 from the field. The Beavers (4-5, 0-2) didn't have an answer for Taylor's inside-out game, as the 6-foot junior went 2-for-4 from 3-point range while controlling the paint.

Simpson's frenetic pace and swarming full-court press did the rest, forcing Buena Vista into 32 turnovers.

The Storm trailed by one with 5:20 left in the opening frame when Claire Johnson's layup sparked a 10-0 run. Josie Clarke nailed a jumper and a Chubb free throw made it 17-8.

Simpson never looked back, building a 21-point lead after a 9-0 run in the second quarter. The Storm took a 44-21 lead into halftime and led by as many as 30 in the second half.

Johnson filled the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals for the Storm.

Destiny Einerwold and Morgan Muhlbauer scored 16 points apiece to lead the Beavers.
