Cold shooting hurts Storm in loss to Luther

DECORAH, Iowa — Claire Marburger and Sarah Holtz combined for 28 points and Luther took advantage of an off-night shooting to beat the Simpson women's basketball team 76-55 on Wednesday.

The duo scored 14 points apiece and Marburger added 11 rebounds for the Norse (14-8, 8-3), who have won four of five. Luther closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run and led the rest of the way.

Victoria Hazard scored 16 points and Ellen Gallagher had 11 — all in the second half — to lead the Storm (12-9, 6-6). Simpson struggled shooting, going 18-for-58 form the field and 4-for-17 from beyond the arc.

Hazard tied the game 8-8 on a layup with 4:13 left in the first half. Grayson Schroeder hit a 3 on the ensuing possession to spark Luther's 10-0 run. Simpson went without a field goal for 6 minutes and 10 seconds, getting back on the board when Janey Botkins hit a 3 early in the second quarter.

Simpson trailed 33-20 at halftime and couldn't close the gap in the second half.
