Taylor scores 23, Storm make 13 3s to beat Dubuque

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Jenna Taylor had another big day with 23 points and the Simpson women's basketball team matched a season-high with 13 3-pointers in an 85-65 win over Dubuque on Wednesday night.

Ellen Gallagher added 12 points, Noreen Morrow had 11 and five rebounds and the Storm (12-7, 6-4 Iowa Conference) bounced back from their loss at Buena Vista on Saturday.

Simpson had lost three straight to the Spartans (4-15, 2-8), including an 83-81 loss last year at Cowles Fieldhouse in which Dubuque came back from 25 points down.

This time around, the Storm got ahead early and stayed ahead.

Leading by four with 2:52 left in the first quarter, Gallagher nailed a 3-pointer to start a 14-3 run. Rachel Freland and Victoria Hazard made a pair of layups followed by a pair of 3's from Taylor as the Storm took control of the game and didn't look back.

Taylor went 9-for-13 from the field (4-for-6 from beyond the arc) and has averaged 23 points over the past three games. During that span Taylor has shot 71 percent from the field.

Morgan Boer and Abbey Meyer led the way with 16 points apiece for Dubuque, shooting a combined 41 percent from the field. The Spartans managed just 37 percent shooting as a team.

Simpson led by as many as 25 in the second half and led for all but 15 seconds in the game. The Storm's 26 assists were one away from tying a season-high.
