Morrow reaches milestone, Storm fall to Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa — Noreen Morrow scored the 1,000th point of her career but Jasmine Demers and Buena Vista held on to beat the Simpson women's basketball team 74-62 on Saturday.

Demers had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Claudia Larsen had 15 and 10 for the Beavers (9-9, 4-5 Iowa Conference), who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Morrow finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds to become just the seventh player in program history to reach the 1,000-point, 500-rebound milestone. Jenna Taylor scored a team-high 13 points and Maddie Simmons added 12 for the Storm (11-7, 5-4), who have lost 3 of 4.

Simpson trailed by as many as 12 in the second half and was down 53-43 late in the third before rallying to take the lead early in the fourth with a 13-2 run.

Cameron Kincaid started the run with a layin at the 1:44 mark in the third. Ellen Gallagher's free throw pulled Simpson within two to end the quarter and Maddie Simmons nailed the go-ahead 3 with 8:52 left in the fourth, giving the Storm a 56-55 advantage.

But the lead was short-lived.

Demers hit a short jumper on the ensuing possession and the Beavers went on a 10-0 run to take control of the game. Demers and Morgan Muhlbauer hit 3s during the run and Simpson couldn't recover.
