Big fourth quarter powers Storm to win over Buena Vista

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Noreen Morrow posted her third double-double of the season and the Simpson women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to beat Buena Vista 57-48 in the Iowa Conference opener Wednesday night at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Maddie Simmons hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 7:11 to play in the fourth quarter, Kali Rasmussen and Jenna Taylor followed with 3s of their own and the Storm (4-2, 1-0 Iowa Conference) held on down the stretch to win the 700th game in program history.

Morrow finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Victoria Hazard added 11 points to give Simpson its first win in a conference opener since the 2012-13 season. Ellen Gallagher pulled down seven rebounds.

Morgan Muhlbauer scored 17 points, going 5-for-6 from 3-point range to lead the Beavers (3-4, 0-1), who led for more than 28 minutes but went cold in the fourth quarter. Buena Vista went just 2-for-9 from the field in the final frame.

Simpson outscored Buena Vista 17-6 in the fourth quarter while going 5-for-10 from the field.
