Suffocating defense sparks Storm to big win at Iowa Wesleyan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa — Janey Botkins had another big game from beyond the arc, the defense was suffocating and the Simpson women's basketball team beat Iowa Wesleyan 62-39 on Saturday.

Noreen Morrow had 14 points and eight rebounds and Botkins and Katie Ahrenholtz provided a big lift off the bench for the Storm (3-6), who won their second game in a row. Botkins scored 15 points on 5-for-11 shooting from beyond the arc and Ahrenholtz scored 10 points in 13 minutes.

The Storm defense forced 25 Iowa Wesleyan turnovers, holding the Tigers to just 12-for-55 from the field. 

Darby Massner scored 14 points to lead the Tigers (3-6), who failed to score more than 12 points in any quarter. Iowa Wesleyan managed just nine points in the second quarter and eight in the fourth.

Simpson held a 17-14 lead in the second quarter before a Britney Boland jumper sparked a 7-0 run, giving Simpson a 10-point edge. The Storm closed the half on a 24-7 run, building a comfortable lead to improve to 16-1 in the all-time series.

Botkins now has 12 3-pointers over the last two games. After missing her first attempt Saturday, she made her next three, going 3-for-4 in the first quarter.
