Storm tested in come-from-behind win, improve to 6-0 in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Simpson softball team faced its toughest test of the young season, coming from three runs down to beat Wheaton (Ill.) before cruising to a run-rule win over Wheelock on Monday at the PFX Spring Games. The Storm beat Wheaton 6-4 to start the day then beat Wheelock 11-0 in five innings.

Through six games, Simpson is hitting .474 as a team while holding opponents to just .128.

Brooke Brommel drove in the go-ahead run on a single in the sixth as the Storm came back to win after trailing 4-1 in the third. Brommel scored an insurance run on a fielding error to help Emily Bell move to 3-0 in the circle.

Bell gave up four runs off three hits with eight strikeouts and five walks in the complete-game win. Brommell, Kasiah Ehresman, Kaleigh Snyder and Annie Stolte all had two hits apiece and Simpson was held without an extra-base hit for the first time.

A two-RBI single gave Wheaton a 4-1 lead after three innings, but Simpson answered with two runs in the fourth to pull within one. Stolte singled to lead off the sixth then scored the tying run on a passed ball after an error extended Simpson's at-bat.

Madison Rasmusson and Madi Bennett had two hits each and the Storm used a five-run fourth to notch their fourth run-ruled game of the season. Arianna Kim and Emily Schilke combined for the two-hit shutout in the circle.

The quartet of Madison Yacko, Kaleigh Snyder, Kelli Hanson and Alicia Perrien all finished with two RBIs apiece as 12 different players recorded a hit. Stolte roped her second triple of the season to score Ehresman in the first and Perrien tripled to drive in two in the big fourth inning.
