Storm drop final two games in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Simpson softball team dropped a pair of games to close the Rebel Spring Games on Saturday, losing to Wheaton (Mass.) 2-1 in nine innings and falling to Carroll (Wis.) 4-0.

The Storm (5-13) lost four in a row to close the week, going 4-10 in Kissimmee. Simpson is off until March 25 when it plays Saint Benedict and Bethel in Pella at the Central Tournament.

Wheaton 2, Simpson 1 (9)
The Lyons scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth, spoiling a great outing by Madison Rasmusson. Rasmusson (3-5) battled in the circle, allowing just two unearned runs off three hits in 8 2/3 innings. Paige Lammers gave Simpson a 1-0 lead on an RBI single in the eighth but Wheaton answered in the home half. Simpson loaded the bases after four straight walks to start the seventh but couldn't push a run across.

Carroll 4, Simpson 0
Amanda Osterhus tossed a one-hitter and Kelly Strasser went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead the Pioneers. Brianna Chaplin got Simpson's only hit, a single with one out in the seventh. Maggie Long (1-6) allowed four runs off 10 hits while striking out five.
