Haag, Fisher named to all-region team

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Two Simpson softball players - junior catcher Tori Haag and junior pitcher Riley Fisher - landed on the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team, as announced by the association earlier this month.

Both Haag and Fisher earned third team honors as "at-large" picks. Haag earns her second all-region nod after collecting second-team honors in 2014. She was a second team all-conferene performer this season. Fisher was a first team all-Iowa Conference honoree and earns all-reigon accolades for the first time.

Haag (Waukee, Iowa) had another banner season behind the plate for the Storm in 2015. In addition to directing a stellar pitching staff, Haag led the team in batting average for players with more than 75 at-bats (.384), home runs (10) and RBIs (37). She led the team with 16 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI efforts.

A transfer from Des Moines Area CC, Fisher (Des Moines, Iowa) established herself as one of the top pitchers in the region, going 14-5 with a 2.71 ERA and three saves. She logged more than 130 innings during the season and registered a team-high 117 strikeouts.

Simpson went 31-12 in 2015 and closed the season with a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Storm went 2-2 at the Bloomington (Ill.) Regional, losing to Alma in the first championship game.
