INDIANOLA, Iowa – Tori Haag had six hits, five RBIs and two home runs, and the No. 10 Simpson softball team swept St. Benedict in the home opener on Friday, winning game one 10-9 and game two 6-2.
Riley Fisher pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to earn the save in game one and went the distance in game two for the Storm (20-2), who won despite trailing in each game and surrendering a season-high in hits (16) and runs in game one.
Becky Gigstad went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in game one for the Blazers (9-7), who continue their journey to Central Iowa on Saturday against St. Scholastica and Central in Pella.
The Storm host another Minnesota Conference foe Saturday when Gustavus Adolphus visits for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Simpson 10, St. Benedict 9
Haag and Britney Steele hit back-to-back home runs as part of a five-run second inning that brought Simpson back from a 2-0 deficit and put the Storm ahead for good. Haag crushed a three-run shot to center and Steele chased starter Taylor Ellingson from the game with a solo blast to left-center. The Blazers pulled within a run twice, but couldn't tie the score.
Gigstad's three-run homer in the sixth made it 7-6 and ended Abbie VanVleet's day. Fisher came on in relief, allowing three runs to cross in the seventh before getting the final out with the winning run on third. VanVleet (10-0) allowed 10 hits and six runs – five earned – and Fisher picked up her third save despite surrendering three runs.
Simpson 6, St. Benedict 2
Rachel Guessford drove in the game-tying run in the third and Fisher brought in the eventual game-winning run as part of a three-run fourth. Simpson trailed 2-1 when Guessford singled off the fence in right, scoring Haag. Ashley Prettyman led off the fourth with a double and scored on a groundout by Fisher.
Haag went deep for the second time two batters later, giving Fisher a comfortable 5-2 lead. Fisher (8-2) struck out a season-high 10 and allowed just one hit in each of the last four innings. Haag went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
