WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The No. 25 Simpson softball team continued its run through the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday, dropping 2014 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Muskingum and Thomas More to improve to 16-0. The Storm beat Muskingum 9-1 in six innings and outlasted Thomas More 3-1.
Simpson used a big, six-run sixth to break open a close game against Muskingum and got a clutch, two-RBI double from Hailey Jensen to beat Thomas More.
The Storm's 16-game winning streak is the second-longest to start a season in school history and the fourth-longest overall. Simpson began the 1998 season with 17 straight wins.
Simpson 9, Muskingum 1 (6 innings)
Ashley Prettyman and Grace Hall drove in two runs apiece during a six-run sixth inning that helped the Storm run-rule the Muskies. Tori Haag added two RBIs and Riley Fisher (7-0) earned the complete-game win, allowing five hits and striking out one.
Simpson 3, Thomas More 1
Jensen plated an RBI double with one out in the fifth to give Simpson a 2-0 lead. Prettyman drove in another run for breathing room later in the inning and the defense held on from there. Abbie VanVleet (7-0) struck out three and allowed one run in five-plus innings and Fisher recorded the final six outs without allowing a hit for her second save.
